Creativity – At the heart of every thing we do

Back in April 2008, our bid to become a ‘Curious Minds’ Change School was successful. We are one of only four schools in Sefton to be selected to receive funding to support an exciting three year curriculum development project. Through this partnership we are striving to provide an innovative curriculum where true creativity is at the heart of everything we do. Over the past 18 months our staff, pupils and governors have been working in partnership with internationally acclaimed educationalists, creative consultants and practitioners to design a curriculum full of rich and memorable opportunities.

Our broad and balanced creative curriculum is underpinned by our commitment to basic skills and providing all pupils with their full entitlement. Alongside discreet literacy and numeracy sessions, subjects are taught thematically. The themes change annually to reflect developments/advances in technology, current affairs and respond to the changing interest of the pupils in each new cohort. Our pupil voice is definitely ‘loud and proud’!

Learning experiences are designed to be enjoyable, practical, hands-on and allow all pupils to make connections to other subjects and real-life experiences in order to promote a love of life-long learning and highlight the importance of achieving future economic well-being.

In Autumn 2009, in collaboration with other local schools, another successful bid secured further funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, an independent grant making body, to support provision of learning opportunities beyond the confines of the classroom. The funding allows us to provide additional day trips and residential experiences that will further enrich the curriculum and improve the quality of life for all of our pupils.

Feedback from pupils and their families in relation to our curriculum is not only welcomed – it is actively encouraged!
