Key Stage 1

Welcome to the Key Stage 1 section. We have two classes in Year 1 and two classes in Year 2. In KS1 the curriculum builds on the children’s experiences in the Foundation Stage and therefore lessons are a combination of key skills building lessons alongside imaginative, creative practical learning experiences.

The children remain to be taught key Literacy and Numeracy skills discretely, with other subjects being taught thematically through exciting creative topics. We also aim to provide each year group with a wide range of innovative ‘Wow’ experiences to further enrich the topics. These experiences could include visitors coming to the school or trips to places relevant to the topic.
Class teachers in each year group plan together, in close consultation with our fantastic team of support staff and take into account shared planning ideas from pupils.

Please find below some details about each year group.

Throughout the month of May, each pupil in Year 2 pupil will be tested at his or her own individual level using national SATs testing materials. At this time, Year 2 staff also make their final teacher assessment judgements. The results of both types of assessment are used to finalise the grades achieved by pupils in Key Stage 1 before they head to the junior department. We kindly ask that parents do not book holidays during this time.

Examples of our children’s work can also be found on our Children’s Gallery Pages.
