Key Stage 2
Welcome to Key Stage 2. We have 2 classes in each year group. Class teachers are responsible for the children’s welfare and delivery of the curriculum. Work is planned jointly, in Year Teams of two teaching staff with close liaison, communication and support from our teaching assistant team. Each year group follows a curriculum which builds on the skills and learning from previous years and enables every child to fulfill their potential.
After the positive feedback we received from parents and children last year, we will continue to teach creatively in Key Stage 2 and follow a thematic approach rather than teaching subjects in isolation. To ensure essential skills and knowledge are delivered, we will use the National Curriculum guidelines for Key Stage 2. In Numeracy we will follow the National Numeracy Strategy, which provides a clear framework of objectives for each year group.
It is very important to the Key Stage 2 team that our pupils find learning fun, interesting and relevant. We aim to make the themes taught as exciting as possible by including 'WOW' experiences such as trips and visitors and lots of practical, first hand activities. We also really value children's input and use their interests and ideas in our planning, all of which ensures the best possible curriculum for our learners.

During Year 6 we endeavour to prepare all children for a smooth transition to secondary school. We work closely with our feeder high school, Hillside High, and children will attend many events at Hillside to prepare them for transition. If your child is considering other high schools, we encourage children to attend open days at local secondary schools and we will authorise absences for those days your child is not in school. Our Y6 team and assistant head are happy to discuss available options and information is given to all parents in September.
All Year 6 pupils will take tests (SATs) the week beginning Monday 14th May 2012. It is important your child is in school on these days.
Examples of our children’s work can also be found on our Children’s Gallery Pages.
