Miss School - Miss Out!

Regular Attendance is vital if your child is to truly succeed and reach their true potential. The pastoral support team at Bedford works very closely with our families and key outside agencies to promote good attendance.

If your child is absent, it is important that you notify school on the first day of their absence (0151-922-1467). Our Learning Mentor. Linda McMahon, will contact any parents whose child is absent and have not contacted the office. On the child’s return, we request written confirmation of the reason for their absence. We ask our parents to make medical appointments out of school hours, however if this is not possible we will only authorise these appointments on production of an official appointment card or letter.

Holidays during term time are strongly discouraged. If a holiday in term time is unavoidable an application form must be completed, at least TWO weeks prior to the leave date, forms are available from the school office. No families can demand leave of absence for their child as a right. The Headteacher will decide whether or not to authorise the absence having considered:

  • Your child’s record of attendance, which must be 95% or above;
  • If leave is granted it shall not exceed ten school days in any one academic year.

Holidays not agreed by the Headteacher, along with unexplained absences, will be classed as unauthorised. Our Learning Mentor and Educational Welfare Officer, Rachel Clague, are continually monitoring attendance and will visit you at home if a child is not attending school.
