Our Intent
Curriculum values
We aim to provide a fully inclusive, broad and balanced curriculum that allows all pupils to develop the skills needed to feel empowered in all lessons, whether in maths as a mathematician, in art as an artist or in science as a scientists - and onwards through all subjects. Through research, exploration with a range of media and the acquisition of key skills, our artists and designers are making their mark!
The Bedford curriculum approach is underpinned by the embedding of thinking skills, effective and timely feedback, greater learner involvement and high standards. The development and skills progression in all subjects will be evident. The use of technology and hands-on, practical experiences are carefully woven through our curriculum to enhance teaching and learning.
Implementation
The National Curriculum provides us with the framework for a skills-based approach to the teaching of Art and Design Technology. At Bedford, children are given the opportunity to explore the work of a range of different artists. A variety of materials are used to produce and create final pieces and each year children will experience drawing, printing, painting, collage, 3D work, and model making. Each child is provided with their very own sketch book to regularly explore, practise and progress their skills as an artist. Pupils value these sketchbooks and enjoy looking back over their individual journey and development as an artist. To ensure progression in the teaching of skills, year group grids from Focus education are used.
To enhance the delivery of our art curriculum, staff are encouraged to use to exploit the array of opportunities that the city of Liverpool has to offer.
Through our Design and Technology curriculum the children will have the opportunity to map out their designs before creating and evaluating them. They will also experience various food hygiene and cooking tasks which will be created and evaluated by the children.
