MISS SCHOOL, MISS OUT!
Regular Attendance is vital if your child is to truly succeed and reach their true potential. The pastoral support team at Bedford work very closely with our families and key outside agencies to promote good attendance.
If your child is absent, it is important that you notify school on the first day of their absence.
How Can I Report An Absence?
For welfare reasons, our pastoral team will contact any family whose child is absent and have not contacted school. If contact can not be established via the telephone or text system then a First Day Response visit will be carried out.
For medical reasons, if a child has been absent for three days or more, we request a doctor's note to confirm the reason for their absence. This policy includes an absence that spans a weekend e.g. Friday to Monday with a child returning to school on the Tuesday.
Whenever possible, we ask our families to make medical appointments out of school hours. However, if this is not possible we can only authorise absences for appointments on production of an official appointment card or letter.
Holidays during term time are discouraged. We do appreciate that sometimes, in exceptional circumstances, term time leave can not be avoided. If you require time off during term time please send a letter to school outlining the dates and reasons for the leave. A member of the school team will contact you to discuss the application for special leave. Your child's current attendance and punctuality will be a determining factor in deciding if the leave can be authorised.
Any unauthorised periods of absence, including term time holidays, persistent absence or lateness could result in families being issued with penalty notices from the Local Authority, resulting in a fine.
