Attendance

MISS SCHOOL, MISS OUT!

Regular Attendance is vital if your child is to truly succeed and reach their true potential. The Pastoral Support Team at Bedford Primary work very closely with our families and key outside agencies to promote good attendance.

If your child is absent, it is important that you notify school on the first day of their absence and keep us updated, daily throughout their absence.

How can I report an absence?

  • You can call school on 0151-922-1467 and speak to the team. The School Office is manned from 8am to 4.30pm daily
  • You can call school at anytime

For welfare reasons, our Pastoral Team will contact any family whose child is absent and have not contacted school. If contact cannot be established then a First Day Response visit will be carried out.

For medical reasons, if a child has been absent for three days or more, we request a doctor's note to confirm the reason for their absence. This policy includes an absence that spans a weekend eg. Friday to Monday with a child returning to school on the Tuesday.

Whenever possible, we ask our families to make specialist medical appointments out of school hours eg. appointments at Alder Hey. However, if this is not possible we can only authorise absences for appointments on production of an official appointment letter. Routine dental, optical and medical appointments should be made outside the school day.

Holidays during term time are not permitted.

Any unauthorised periods of absence, including term time holidays, persistent absence or lateness will result in families being referred to the Local Authority attendance panel and ultimately issued with penalty notices resulting in a fine.
